Toy Storage Collection

There is potentially a lot of money to be made from collecting old toys such as trading cards, books and comic books. This is one reason why the hobby has become so popular. Storing all of these items can become an issue if you do not want your home to look too cluttered.

If you are lucky enough to have a spare room then you could store your collection in there. However, this is not an option that is available to everyone and so you may have to be a little more creative.

Ideas For Toy Storage

The main thing to consider when you are looking at ways to store your toys is how often they will be used. If you still have young children then you may want to store them in boxes where the toys that they play with regularly are easily accessible. Any toys that are only used occasionally can be placed on shelving.

Older children may like to keep the toys that they played with while they were younger but they will not necessarily be using all the time. You may want to invest in a display cabinet where things can be viewed all the time. This idea will also work for collectors of toys as it will allow them to be on display without taking up too much room.

If you are a collector then you may want to keep track of all the items that you have in your collection and where they are stored. This will help you to make sure that you don’t buy the same item twice and it may also be useful if you ever need it for insurance purposes.

Preparing Toys For Storage

If you are a collector of toys then you will want to make sure that your items are properly prepared for storage. This is even more important if you are planning to sell the toys on at any point in the future.

You will get a better price for an item if it is in immaculate condition and storing it properly can help to ensure that this is the case. You will get the best price for your item if it is still in its original packaging and has never been opened.

Using A Storage Unit

If you really do not have enough room in your home for your toy collection, then you may consider renting a self storage unit. These units are very secure and can be next best thing to storing your items at home. The best way to store toys in a storage unit is to keep them all in cardboard boxes that are all properly labelled.

When you are boxing your items up to be put in storage you need to make sure that they are packed correctly so there is no risk of them becoming damaged. Make sure that there is enough room in the box for all the items as trying to fit too many in could damage the toys.

They should also be wrapped up before they are put in the box. You can just use old newspaper for this but bubble wrap may be the better option because it offers more protection. You will need some newspaper though as this can be used to fill the space in the boxes between the items.

The only exception to using cardboard boxes is if you are storing dolls. This is because if you intend to keep the dolls in storage for a while, they can become damaged by the chemicals that are produced in small quantities by the cardboard boxes over time.

Another thing that you need to be aware of when putting toys into storage is that they shouldn’t be exposed to direct sunlight. However, this is not an issue with self storage units because they do not have any windows.
